Jacob started surfing at age eight. His passion and dedication to the sport, combined with the support of his parents Tim Albury and Hilary Scott, has led to an exciting opportunity.
After winning the Shut Up & Surf Contest, Junior Division, the Canadian Surfing Association invited Jacob to join the national team and compete in World Juniors in New Zealand January, 2010.
I seek funding so I may represent Canada at the ISA World Junior Championships in New Zealand, January 2010. The Canadian Junior surfing team has little-to-no budget for helping members with travel expenses.
All donations to the Jacob Albury Surf Account will go towards sending me to represent Canada in the world's biggest contest for youth surfing. This event will raise awareness for the sport as something today's youth - and tomorrow's - can participate.
Your financial support would mean so much to me! It would help with my expenses for the travel, accommodation and equipment needed to represent Canada in the planet's most important contest for youth dedicated to surfing!
I hope you will consider donating,
Thank you so much, Jacob Albury
Jacob Albury is selected to be a member of the Canadian Surf Team for the International Surfing Association Quiksilver World Juniors Championships. They are being held in Auckland, New Zealand in January 2010.
As you may be aware, sending a team to these contests has been a challenge over the years. The surfer covers the cost of the trip himself - with the help of parents and local sponsors.
The Canadian Surf Association asks you to make a donation to help offset the cost of sending Jacob to the Quiksilver World Junior Surfing Championships. This is an educational and personal opportunity of a lifetime!
As a high school teacher, I have been taking students surfing for many years, and Jacob is by far the most motivated young man I have encountered in terms of his desire to both improve his surfing and to succeed academically.
When surfing with Jacob, it is clear that he wants to push himself to accomplish everything he can as a surfer . . . He is judicious and wise beyond his years in the water, and treats each wave as an opportunity to refine his skills. This gives his surfing an uncommon intensity.
Jacob maintains a modest demeanour that is also inspiring. He cheers on beginner surfers wholeheartedly; however, I have yet to hear him brag or boast to his peers . . . In Jacob's age group, this humble attitude is remarkable.
